iMessage down for some users…

Image

Some of you may have noticed over the past 15-20 hours that iMessage has stopped working. It seems that this is a fault at Apple’s end and not device specific. This means that resetting your device will not rectify the issue and users will have to wait till the service is fixed before being able to see those little blue messages again.

You can read more about the issue here.

The new iPhone 5

So, after months of anticipation and speculation the wait for the iPhone 5 is over. Tim Cook announced the new device in front of a packed audience with all the grace and charm you would expect from an Apple product launch.

So without further ado here is the device the world has been waiting for.
20120912-211229.jpgThe first thing to point out is the screen. As widely predicted the screen is bigger, the first time Apple have changed the screen size since the iPhones creation. However it is longer and not wider than most people had predicted. The iPhone 5 boasts a 4 inch retina screen meaning that the phone doesn’t feel oversized in your hand but still allows a lot more content to be displayed than on previous iPhones.

In addition to altering the screen size Apple have also worked tirelessly to make the device more ergonomic for owners. The iPhone 5 is 18% thinner and 20% lighter than the iPhone 4S.

Apple have created an all new A6 chip to power the new iPhone. This will not only double the performance of the phone but adds much need battery life, meaning owners will no longer have to carry their chargers with them wherever they go.

Replacing the iPhone ‘dock’ connected that has remains untouched since the original is the new ‘Lightening’ connector. The all digital connector is reversible meaning there is no wrong way to plug in the cable.

It’s not just the phone that has received a makeover, the traditional apple earphones are no more. They have been replaced by the all new ‘Earpods’. Whether the pods will be able to complete with some of the more expensive earphones remains to be seen but with improved sound and fit the ‘Earpods’ are sure to please many.

As always there is a wealth of speculation across the net as to what the new iPhone will feature.

Features that we can expect include:

New Body Design

Many images have popped over over the net predicting what shape the new iPhone will be. Although we cant be certain on how it the new device will look we can be sure it will move away from the design Apple went with for the iPhone 4 and the iPhone 4S

New Screen

Sources inside the production process have suggested that the iPhone 5 will have a larger screen than its predecessors bringing it more in line with devices such as the Samsung Galaxy.

New Dock connector

Apple’s familiar dock connector – used to charge the device or to connect it to docks and other accessories – is being replaced in the new iPhone. Sources suggest it is too big for a gadget that needs to get more powerful, while also getting thinner. Replacing the familiar dock connector will be a much smaller connector, which will frustrate those of you that have just bought a new Bose docking station!

Further Improved Camera

One of the biggest features of the iPhone 4S was the advancements in the devices camera over past devices and this is a trend that is due to continue with the new phone. Apps such as Hipstamatic and Instagram have increased the popularity of iPhoneography and which smart phones all but killing the standard digital camera you can be sure Apple will be looking to develop the iPhones photographic capability going forward.

iOS6

As always the new iPhone will come loaded with the latest update to the operating system and we already know what features iOS has to develop the device even further. The main features of iOS6 are Facebook integration, New ‘Apple’ Maps, Facetime over cellular connection and shared photo streams. You can read more about iOS6 on Apples site here.
